I write to register my concern on the need for justice UNGBUkO of the Oporoma judicial Division sitting at Opposite fire service, Yenagoa to be disqualified or barred from promotion or elevation for 20 years. Though, I am a lone voice, but is high time the National Judicial Council spread its search light towards Bayelsa State , weild it’s hammar on justice UNGBUkO, and also, possibly see the rot in the Bayelsa State judiciary. The Nigerian Code of conduct for judicial officers clearly outlines provisions to prevent judicial misconduct and corruption which includes:
— prohibition from Bribery. That is to say as a judicial officer you shouldn’t accept bribe, gifts of benefits just to influence judicial decision.
— Conflict of interest. I.e the judge should avoid a case where he/ she have interest so as not to compromise.
— Impartiality and integrity. Be fair to all parties no matter what, and to maintain your stand as an upright man who has been given the power to kill or not to.
Amongst all the aforementioned, Justice UNGBUkO is found culpable.Aps such, he ought be and should be suspended or/and disqualified from holding public office or/and suspension for ten years without pay or/ and removed from his office and possibly seizure and FORFEITURE of property ocorruptly acquired via illicit or abuse of power.
Infact, many obnoxious things are happening in Bayelsa State without public knowledge Our people too are not helping matters by helping to expose these highly corrupt judges. The popular saying that: the” judiciary is the hope of the common man” is not obtainable in Bayelsa State. With this this , there is no light in the Nigerian judicial tonel. Infact, he should be place on the Judicial Council Watch list and possibly barred from promotion or elevation for 20 years.
If Bayelsa State has only Judges like him, in just two years, the whole Bayelsa and indeed ,by extension, the country would be on fire. This is a man who delivers judgement without listening to the other party.Just imagine because he has been bribe and financial induced by one Ebitei Tonyon an ex-commissioner and currently serving Special Adviser to Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State .pervated justice, Since he was acting on the advise of his paymasters, he hurriedly gave judgment few hours before the Easter holidays. I will liken him to one Justice Okon Abang and former Justice Egbo Egbo.
These characters are so corrupt that the courts are centre for cash and carry, they rule with impunity and feels that they are untameable. Borrowing from the words of the former Vice president of Nigeria Prof. Yemi Osibanjo, where he was a guest speaker in Yenagoa Branch of the Nigeria Bar Association. He said and I quote: ‘These types of judges are now tyrants in the temple justice, whose only mission is desecrating it and trampling on the rights of the weak (just like the way innocent Jonas Enewari was sentence) and those who cannot afford their bills. He went further by saying that: “they shall continue to be be disgraced by themselves and put into the dusbin of history.
In addition, the Nigerian constitution establishes a Code of Conduct Tribunal to try cases of misconduct and corruption involving judicial officers.Overall, these provisions aim to promote integrity, transparency and accountability in the judiciary and ensure that judicial officers and judges upholds the highest standards of conduct.
